Just Cause 4 is set to release later this year, though so far Square Enix and Avalanche Studios have released very little gameplay for the title, focusing a lot of their early marketing efforts in the technology behind the game.
Avalanche's latest APEX engine promises to deliver better graphics and smoother gameplay than ever before, promising insane weather systems, a larger more detailed game world and higher-fidelity destruction, longer draw distances and more. So far, the APEX engine has been confirmed to power both Just Cause 4 and RAGE 2, with RAGE 2 being co-developed by id software.
One of the key promises of Avalanche's new engine is that it will deliver a much smoother experience than Just Cause 3, which could experience massive framerate drops on PS4, Xbox One and to a lesser extent, PC. In the "APEX POWER" trailer below a developer states that 'The entire experience (of Just Cause 4) will be much smoother than before'.
Just Cause 4 is currently set to release on December 4th on PC, Xbox One and PS4, though at this time very little gameplay for the title has been released.

Just Cause 3 proved to be quite a performance hog on both PCs and consoles, particularly in areas with lots of explosions, environmental destruction and other compute-intensive effects. With this in mind, we hope that Avalanche's latest tweaks to their APEX Engine can allow Just Cause 3 to run better than its predecessor, even with its improved visual feature set.
