AMD's new Ryzen 2000 series high-end CPUs will soon be upon us, releasing alongside a new AM4 chipset, backwards comparability with 300-series motherboards and on top of Global Foundries' new 12nm manufacturing process.
Right now, AMD's next generation of CPUs is rumoured to release on April 19th, which means that now is the perfect time for hardware leaks, with motherboards and CPUs shipping to retailers across the globe in large quantities.
Vidiocardz has managed to snag some early images of ASUS' upcoming ROG Crosshair VII Hero motherboard, which is set to use AMD's new X470 motherboard chipset. In the picture below we can see that ASUS has upgraded their existing Hero design with an additional M.2 slot under the CPU socket, added two extra RGB LED headers and has made several changes to their power design/layout.
While the overall motherboard design is remarkably similar to its predecessor aesthetically, using a similar chipset heatsink and the same I/O cover, ASUS has made more than a few changes to their ROG Crosshair feature set. The first thing we noticed is the Crosshair VII's pre-fitted I/O cover and an easy to reach power on/off switch, which was nigh unreachable on ASUS' previous Crosshair VI design when used with a multi-GPU setup (it was under the 3rd PCIe slot).
One thing to note however is ASUS' move to six SATA 3.0 ports, two less than the Crosshair VI Hero. This motherboard also seems to lack any display outputs, making it unsuitable for use with an AMD Raven Ridge APU, at least if you want to use its iGPU.
