A Way Out has already surpassed EA's lifetime sales expectations

Hazelight's A Way Out was only expected to be moderately successful, with EA predicting that the game would sell 203,000 copies in its first week and 894,000 copies over the game's lifetime.
A few days ago, Hazelight confirmed that A Way Out has sold over 1 million copies, surpassing EA's sales target within two weeks. Not bad for a low budget EA original.
A Way Out is a co-op only game, where each player takes the role of either Vincent or Leo, two prison inmates who through the game will escape from jail and have a cross-country adventure (The game is called "A Way Out" after all). Gamers can play this game in split-screen or online co-op modes, with both versions showcasing the same split-screen perspective.
One unique selling point of the game is that fact that online co-op only requires one of the players to own the title, with the other needing a free downloadable client version of the game to play on their system. This unique feature was expected to harm A Way Out's overall sales.

A Way Out's success showcases hot well new IP can perform with a low budget, offering a unique gameplay experience and a compelling story, unmarred by loot boxes, DLC or microtransactions.
